Authors note: The duality of Jekyll and Hyde really made me
think of how people truly are in life. Many times, humans pretend to be one
way, when really, they are a completely different person than who they make up
to be. So, this is going to be a blog about how I feel about the reality of two-faced
people
I know it’s
a stereotype that a two-faced person is someone who is dishonest, says one
thing to one person and something different to the next, and maybe that person
expresses certain feelings to someone but different ones to some others. Think
about this for a minute though. Don’t we all have those qualities? Does that
make us all two-faced people? What really defines the words “two-faced”?
Think about
it this way: you have lied to someone in your life before. It might have been
your parents, maybe your friends, or someone you barely even know. But you’ve
done it. Even though it isn’t the correct thing to do all the time, there are
certain exceptions. Perhaps you may not want to but may, in fact, need to tell
a white lie to protect someone you care about. Does this make you a liar? Or a
good person?
Maybe you
need to act a certain way in front of someone but act a different way in
someone else; but no one really knows the reason behind it. You might really be
feeling pain and sadness but you don’t want to express it to anyone else but a
close friend. Does that make you two-faced? Or just a normal human being who
may be afraid to express how they truly feels?
I’m really
not sure about what I think of that word. I mean, on one hand, a person could
use it to be plain evil and controlling; but on the other hand, it’s actually
kind of necessary to be dishonest with people; not only for your own good, but
theirs too.
