The Weaker Sex

Author’s Note: looking back at the story of Jekyll and Hyde, I realize now that there are almost no females in the story. Anytime there is one, she is portrayed as week and not held to the standards of men. In the beginning of the novella, there is a girl who gets trampled by Hyde and Juggernaut with absolutely no thought of it. “…and that human Juggernaut trod the child down and passed on regardless of her screams.” Why are the men so inconsiderate? Why do they look down on us women? She is considered to be less than them and I don’t understand why. Why are women always seen as the weaker sex in society? Well, he’s my view on it.

For as long as I can remember, women have always kept the stereotype of being weaker than men. But exactly how true could that possibly be? Women have to deal with so much that guys just don’t even understand. Yeah, we get that they sometimes may be physically stronger, but not all the time! For example, a man who does not do anything and sits at home all day will most likely not be stronger than a woman who is in the army. Plus, who are the ones that give birth to children? That’s right: us. Childbirth could be considered one of the most painful experiences that anyone could ever go through. We deal with it though and still come out with a smile on our faces to see our newborn.
Emotionally, we are able to suppress our feelings so much and deal with situations that would make a man go crazy. If not better, then equally, men and women deal with their emotions. We are all able to hold in what we really feel. And men may see it as a weakness that we break down and cry about things. But they truly don’t know why. It isn’t a sign of weakness; it’s just that we have been strong for so long and we need to release some of that emotion. Sometimes, we give in to certain things that men would never do. Let’s say that you forgive a friend for doing something terrible to you. A man will sometimes see it as stupid and they think that the friend should be erased from their life. But what they don’t see is that sometimes you just need to be the bigger person. It takes so much more out of a person to be able to dig into themselves and find a place in their heart to truly forgive someone than to give someone the cold shoulder.
In reality, who is the stronger sex? What if someone is homosexual? Is he considered stronger because he is physically a man or weaker because he is seen as a woman on the outside? I honestly think that we are all equal because we all have our strengths and weaknesses. Us women should definitely not be looked down on just because we may be smaller or seem more delicate. We have the right to be treated as any other person in the world, no matter what our gender is.

Never Too Late

Authors Note: I believe that Hyde’s physical appearance symbolizes more than what meets the eye. I think it’s a lot deeper than that. This poem represents what I feel when I read about his looks and my belief that there is some good in everyone and anyone can change their life around for the better. It is Never too late.

Scrawny, horizontally challenged, and deformed
Closer to the ground for a reason
To be nearer to the place he truly belongs
A dark place where no soul wishes to go

Devilish
He is hell
Nothing is so dark and evil
Nothing so contrast to heaven

Evil eyes that can devour your soul
With just one glance, your blood will curdle
A stare that none can overpower
But power is what you make it to be

Take control of what runs through your veins
The rush, the rage, the wickedness
Fight it back and take control
For only you will ever know

No more evil
No more Hell
Only love, peace, and time will tell

Transform yourself
And be the good
For all is broken
Until you find the true you and all is finally understood

Two-Faced

Authors note: The duality of Jekyll and Hyde really made me think of how people truly are in life. Many times, humans pretend to be one way, when really, they are a completely different person than who they make up to be. So, this is going to be a blog about how I feel about the reality of two-faced people

I know it’s a stereotype that a two-faced person is someone who is dishonest, says one thing to one person and something different to the next, and maybe that person expresses certain feelings to someone but different ones to some others. Think about this for a minute though. Don’t we all have those qualities? Does that make us all two-faced people? What really defines the words “two-faced”?
Think about it this way: you have lied to someone in your life before. It might have been your parents, maybe your friends, or someone you barely even know. But you’ve done it. Even though it isn’t the correct thing to do all the time, there are certain exceptions. Perhaps you may not want to but may, in fact, need to tell a white lie to protect someone you care about. Does this make you a liar? Or a good person?
Maybe you need to act a certain way in front of someone but act a different way in someone else; but no one really knows the reason behind it. You might really be feeling pain and sadness but you don’t want to express it to anyone else but a close friend. Does that make you two-faced? Or just a normal human being who may be afraid to express how they truly feels?
I’m really not sure about what I think of that word. I mean, on one hand, a person could use it to be plain evil and controlling; but on the other hand, it’s actually kind of necessary to be dishonest with people; not only for your own good, but theirs too.

Who Am I?

Author’s note: Similarly to the teen girl in my poem, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde are the same persona who happens to have a split personality-like character. What inspired me to write this elegy was the emotion of having two utterly separate lives with a totally opposite set of feelings within one being. You may have an atrocious point of view through one, but may have the most astonishing one through a diverse personality. In the end, you truly have to battle to be able to find and truthfully discover yourself in the heart of all the insanity.

So who am I?
On the inside I’m a lonesome girl
Seeking attention from anyone who cares to listen
But no one ever does

Who am I?
A girl who tries her hardest to fit in
Wearing expensive clothes and caking makeup on
Yet never belonging to a definite group of friends

Who am I?
A girl with a torn family and heart
Looking for a shoulder to cry on
But none are ever there

Who am I?
A girl who is tired
A girl who is overwhelmed
A girl who is done

So who am I?
On the outside I’m the perfect girl
Dissing others who care to please me
Yet everyone still likes me

Who am I?
A girl who is careless because everyone wants to be her
Starting the trends in beauty and fashion
Always having a posse with her no matter where she goes

Who am I?
A girl with the perfect family and relationships
Annoyed with getting too much attention sometimes
Yet she complains about no one ever listening

Who am I?
A girl who is happy
A girl who is flawless
A girl who is just getting started

In between it all
I may have a few rises and falls
But day and night, as I try to find my way
The thought once again runs by
Who am I?
